Each month we introduce are readers to one of the characters of the Paris international residents scene. This month we interview Allison Gunn the new manager of the Highlander.

August sees not only the Olympics, but also the start of the of the new football (soccer) season. There are several pre-season tournaments before the traditional kick-off, the Community Shield (Sun 10 Aug) followed a week late by the start of the English Premiership (Sat 16), international football and even an Old Firm clash (Sun 31). August sees the return of Paris’s biggest rock concert Rock En Seine (Aug 20 &28/29).

Clare & Karine from the Cork & Cavan

This month we interview Clare & Karine from the Cork & Cavan, otherwise known as the Hobbit Inn due to the diminutive size of the bar staff. The Cork’s a fabulous friendly Irish Pub right on the bank of the Canal St Martin, and one of our favourite places to sit and have a pint after work or on a sunny afternoon. As well as their legendary baked potatoes and meat pies, they’ve now added a real Ice Cream machine.

Football this month may be limited to money spinning off-season friendlies and U19, but TV sport continues with the Wimbledon Finals, Tri Nations and State of Origin Rugby, International & Domestic Cricket, MLB (including the All Star Game), GAA, and closer to home The Tour de France. Parties, promos, etc.

It’s all happening in Paris this July, from the very cultural Quartier d’Ete to the poor mans beach holiday that is Paris Plage. There is of course Bastille Day (Jul 14) with the associated Bal des Pompiers (Jul 13-15) and finally at the end of the month the Tour de France enters Paris and finishes with a lap of the Champs Elysees.
