Damian Tither, General Manager at O’Sullivan’s By The Mill (BTM)
In this month’s who’s who is Damian Tither, General Manager at O’Sullivan’s By The Mill (BTM). This young Aussie brings a wealth of experience to his role at one of the biggest and busiest pubs in Paris and to find out how he manages to tackle the role we sat down with him and had a good old Aussie chin wag…
- Funky Paris: What made you first to come to Paris?
- Damo: My brother Dennis asked me over for a few months and I ended up saying several years - ya gotta love this place
- Funky Paris: What’s it like working in BTM…?
- Damo: It’s great, I’ve only been here as the general manager for about 5 months. The bar itself is fantastic just in the physical lay-out but what makes it for me are the people I work with. The team really support each other and know how to have a laugh and work hard
- Funky Paris: Where was the last place you worked and how does it compare?
- Damo: I opened and was managing the Café Oz Grands Boulevards before I moved up to O’Sullivan’s by the mill, Café Oz was great but I’m loving working at BTM. It definitely keeps me moving and thinking
- Funky Paris: What’s the strangest and funniest thing you’ve seen in BMT….?
- Damo: The Irish a couple of weeks back during the world cup qualifier with France and a work mate that attempted to inhale some of the gas that’s used for cleaning computers changes your voice but actually picked up a foam cleaner leaving him with a very bad taste and a mouth full of foam. You had to be there I guess...
- Funky Paris: What are your favourite moments in BTM…..?
- Damo: One of them is definitely having that first beer with the staff after a big night at work. Other than that when the night goes smoothly and all you get to do is have a laugh with the staff and the customers and then close the night down without any hiccups.
- Funky Paris: Other than the BTM, what are your favourite bars/restaurants in Paris?
- Damo: I love going to the La Pomme d Eve, the Bombardier ,the Violon Dingue, The Long Hop, Millers Bar when I get the time off. Otherwise for a few cheeky pints after work I hit up the Cafe Oz blanche.
- Funky Paris: When you’re not working what do you do??
- Damo: Most of the time if it’s sunny and hot, BBQ’s at home with mates and then out on the piss. When it’s cold, movies, eating and going around the bars I know with a few mates
- Funky Paris: What are your long term ambitions and plans?
- Damo: In the end owning my own bar, until then just enjoy life and my friends. I figure if your smiling it’s a good start
- Funky Paris: What’s your catchphrase?
- Damo: We’re not here to fuck spiders, ya flamm’n mungral,
- Funky Paris: One Last Word?
- Damo: yep
