Who's Who

In this month’s Who’s Who FunkyParis interviews Karine and Clare from the Cork & Cavan.

This month’s Whos Who is from the W.O.S. (Wide Open Spaces) Bar, Pierre
  • Funky Paris: Tell us why you are in Paris?
  • Karine: I’m going to be a rock star.
  • Clare: I’m going to save the world. No seriously, that’s what we want to do. But the C&C is pretty cool though too.
  • Funky Paris: What is it like working in the C&C?
  • Karine: It’s a way to find a future husband!
  • Clare: Bonkers. Loads of really great customers. Some hotties too ;)
  • Funky Paris: What is the strangest/funnniest thing you have seen since being in Paris?
  • Karine: People drinking champagne when Sarko was elected?
  • Clare: Recently, Karine when she got stuck in the umbrella on the terrace. I cycle everywhere though and there are so many funny things every day.
  • Funky Paris: What are your ambitions in life?
  • Karine: I want to create, to share and to drive people to wake up via music and writings.
  • Clare: I’m particularly concerned about refugee crises and want to work in this field.
  • Funky Paris: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
  • Karine: I enjoy composing, and having the best Guinness here!!!
  • Clare: What, stuff happens outside of here???
  • Funky Paris: What do you play to get the bar rocking?
  • Karine: Moriarty and Poni Hoax. If you are reading this, please come and play for us!!!
  • Clare: Yep, we are on a bit of a Moriarty binge at the moment. It drives Kevin [our boss] dooo-lally!!
  • Funky Paris: Say something about each other.
  • Karine: Clare hates making the sandwiches. And she speaks Spanish instead of French when she is drunk and doesn’t even realise!
  • Clare: Karine says ‘fucking terrace’ in her cute French accent in her sleep. You can ask her to write a song about anything, such as liking the word ‘pamplemousse’ and 5 minutes later bam... She’s a genius.
  • Funky Paris: Say something about Kevin.
  • Karine: He’s going to be president of Ireland one day. And he wants Dire Straits to play live in the pub. If you are reading this…
  • Clare: I wish he would just lighten up and enjoy a pint of Guinness from time-to-time! ;)
  • Funky Paris: Other than the C&C, where else do you like to wine and dine?
  • Karine: Le Camboge resto-mmmm.
  • Clare: I love the Diablito Latino for salsa dancing. Although I have been known to dance here too, now I think about it. And a jig with Karine behind the bar on Paddy’s Day,
  • Funky Paris: What’s the funniest thing that has happened in the C&C?
  • Karine: Dancing on the bar. Hehehee. Racing Clare to make the sandwiches. I can do them in 2mins 41!!Justin our sexy barman calling the pub The Hobbit Inn, Demny our lovely barmaid imitating Justin calling us the Hobbit Inn… our lovely barmaid, waxing each others hobbit feet every day, because the bobos on the canal think it’s not hype...
  • Clare: i)Working the night shift when the electricity was cut. ii) When the bus took the umbrella down the street iii) the guy who reckons he works for the French Secret Service. Iv) the woman who is paranoid that the motion detector for the toilet is a hidden camera v) Karine showing Kevin a picture of herself with Euro-sign eyes when she wants to be paid vi) Kevin ‘singing’ “Yesterday” on the stage… vii) How many more can we fit in? FP: Um.. that’s enough.
  • Funky Paris: One last word.
  • Karine: Je sors la terrace chaque jour a 11 heure, si quelqu’un veut m’aider...
  • Clare: I put the terrace in every night at 1, if anyone wants to help... Come and visit us anyway though. We are quite nice.
