This month’s Funky Movie Choice is The Way Back, another Peter Weir Classic adventure, starring Jim Sturgess, Ed Harris and Colin Farrell. Also out this month, but not really worth the effort are; Country Strong (5/10), and Season of the Witch (6/10).

FUNKY CHOICE
- The Way Back (8/10) A film adaptation by Peter Weir (Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Truman Show, Master & Commander) of Slavomir Rawicz’s fact-based novel, telling the story of seven soldiers who escaped from a Soviet gulag during WWII and embarked on a daring 4,000 mile trek across Asia and over the Himalayas to hopeful safety in India. Great performances all round, especially from Sturgess, Harris and Farrell, coupled with a solid no-nonsense script make this a seriously good film... We only wish it could have been longer. Here’s hoping they release a directors uncut version one day.

- Season of the Witch (6/10)Nicolas Cage stars as a 14th century Crusader who returns home to find it devastated by the Black Plague, which the church blame on a suspected witch. Not Cages best effort.. Wait for the DVD and watch while drunk.
