This month the very witty, charming, and dare we say seductively sexy Cecily Weeks has taken a wry look at this months new releases. See her informed and sometimes brutally honest opinions below.

FUNKY CHOICE
- In Bruges 9/10
This dark comedy with Colin Farrell & Brendan Gleeson follows the story of their contrasting experiences of “the most historically preserved medieval city” of Bruges. These 2 hit-men unwittingly wind up there after a hit gone wrong (blowing a child’s head off apparently just isn’t done). Their experiences are a great combination of tourism mixed with different characters such as the “midget” filmmaker. The plot is more driven by the characters rather than just being a promotional overview of the town, and is punctuated with enough laugh out loud black comedy one-liners to keep even the most humourless punter in a fit of giggles. Also, it has an unexpected twist at the end, so beware. As I watch this though I can’t help but wonder what ever happened to Colin Farrell’s real accent?

Other Releases This Month
- Kung Fu panda 6/10As someone who has been forced to look as this panda’s crotch for the last 2 months you can understand why I might be sceptical about the quality of the concept of a fat panda doing kung fu, but hey at least you have to hand it to the creators on the originality front. I also have to complement the film on its casting, as Jack Black is a favourite of mine. But yet it still relies too heavily on its stars and the animation, and unfortunately lacks in the utter predictability of its plotline, yes that right, the under“dog” panda fights back against all odds to save the day and become the hero. Sorry to ruin it for you. Basically it’s just another relatively entertaining computer animated children/teen film with a few laughs along the way and a feel good “fuzzy” ending.

- The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian 7/10
Either you like this genre of film or you don’t! For those who don’t like seeing posh English children chatting with animals and waving swords around keep away, and for those who do, you will enjoy this dark though not completely loyal adaptation of the C.S. Lewis classic. A good one to keep all the family entertained, even though it borders a little on the violent side, and prince Caspian is far too good looking to feel that threatening. - Meet the Spartans 3/10Yet another spoof (see last months review of “Superhero Movie”), except this time with just slightly more dedication to one particular film. Why bother!!!!
